How To Make: Fresh Pomegranate Soap At Home

Cold process soaps are famous to be great moisturizing soaps as well as incredibly nourishing. You will need an oil mix, lye flakes, distilled water and pomegranate juice to make today’s cold process soap, the Absolute Pomegranate. 

The oil mix is a combination of coconut, olive, castor and palm oil. Each oil has amazing qualities. For example, olive oil is extremely rich with antioxidant and vitamin E, which has anti-aging benefits and makes the skin smooth and soft. Palm oil is also rich with antioxidants and vitamins which nourishes the skin, and keeps it healthy and gives it a nice radiant glow. 

Pomegranate juice reduces the inflammation of the skin and also naturally brightens the skin. For a citrusy and revitalizing aroma, add grapefruit and lemongrass fragrance oil. To finish the soap with a nice burst of color, add synstar red and red iron oxide mica. There you have it, the incredibly nourishing Absolute Pomegranate!

Total Time : 40 minutes

Ingredients: (makes 5 x 50g soap bars)

1. 210g Oil Mixture (30% Olive Oil, 30% Coconut Oil, 30% Palm Oil, 10% castor Oil)
2. 31g SoapLab’s Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) Pastilles 
3. 20g Distilled Water 
4. 15g Grapefruit & Lemongrass Fragrance Oil  
5. 20g Pomegranate Juice 
6. 3g Synstar Red Colour Pigment 
7. 10-20 sprays of Rubbing Alcohol 
8. 6 cavity silicon mold 50g 

Equipments You Will Need:

1. Heat Resistant Containers
2. Spatula/ Stirrer (Can Also be kitchen Spoon)
3. Weighing Scale (Digital)

Visual Guide  

1. Combine lye flakes with distilled water carefully. Wear gloves & long sleeves to avoid backsplash getting in contact with exposed skin. 
   
   
   
2. Slowly mix with a whisk until all the lye flakes have dissolved in the distilled water. Solution may become hot, do be cautious. 
3. To bring lye solution to room temperature, place container in a water bath. 
4. Separately, pour your Oil Mix into a heat resistant mixing container. 
   
   
   
5. Combine room temperature lye water with the oil mix in the same container. 
   
   
   
6. Next, use a whisk and mix until it reaches thin trace. Timing of this may vary as the faster you mix, the faster solution will saponify and reaches thin trace. 
   
   
   
7. Next, add in Grapefruit & Lemongrass Fragrance Oil into soap mix. 
   
   
   
8. Add in Synstar Red Mica into the container and mix with a whisk until colour is evenly dispersed throughout the soap.  
   
   
   
9. Add some Pomegranate into the container. You may squeeze & strain the fruit before hand or you may just add them whole. 
   
   
10. Mix everything using a whisk until colour, fruit/juice & oil are evenly dispersed throughout the soap mixture.
11. Prepare your silicone mold. Spray with Rubbing Alcohol to sanitise mold. Also, add in More Pomegranate into each cavity. 
    
    
    
12. Pour the soap mixture into each cavity carefully, soap might still be warm. Fill in each cavity until the brim. 
    
    
    
13. Gently tap on the mold to remove air pockets in the soap. Garnish with more Pomegranate on top if you wish to. Then, leave soap to harden, usually it will take 24 - 48 hours
    
    
    
14. Once hardened, carefully pull mold away from soap. This will help preserve those desired sharp & crispy edges of the soap.  
    
    
    
15.  Whenever you feel ready, gently push soap out from the mold.  
    
    
    
16. Soap will be needing 2 - 4 weeks to fully cure before it is used. Keep soap aside till then.
